A common sense solution

Two days before the meeting, the organizers handed out flyers to every home in our neighborhood. The topic was about Solid Waste Management. Must be Interesting, I thought, so off I went to attend on the designated date and time. There must have been around eighteen or nineteen of us attendees, if I'm not mistaken.
The resource person was in his early 20's.

He talked about garbage, recyclable garbage, non-recyclables, toxic wastes, composting, etc.
I was mildly irritated when he kept on mentioning his Barangay, how they were able to get the cooperation of the residents and managed their garbage, how they were able to keep their Barangay clean, and how they won awards regarding their achievements and the support they received from the various business establishments located in their vicinity.

But I continued to listen and kept my mouth shut, Finally, mild irritation gave way to intrigue so I raised my hand, "Where is this Barangay you keep mentioning?" and he answered, " It's in Cebu, it's called Barangay Luz". Then he showed us slides of his Barangay. It was then I realized he was talking about his neighborhood with pride.

He then proceeded to discuss and explain their solution to their garbage problem.
Segregation is a key factor, in effect, what the garbage men collect is greatly reduced by about 20%-30%. And they, the residents, get to earn money just by properly managing their garbage. It was at this point that the young man introduced us to vermiculture. In short, they use worms to process their organic garbage. ..and sell the by-product as organic fertilizer. No wonder, various LGU's or Local Government Units take the time and effort to learn from them and replicate their success.

This is exactly my point when I posted the pic on Facebook. I don't know how Politics came into the picture all of a sudden. How sad!
